Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov recalled how exactly one year ago, the Ukrainian Navy sank the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva missile cruiser, with a Ukrainian Neptune missile strike. He posted this on Facebook.

“Exactly one year ago, the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine rewrote a century of history. An accurate strike by Ukrainian Neptune missiles hit the same ‘Russian warship’ – the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva missile cruiser, which sank the next day,” he said.

According to Reznikov, the event was so inspiring and unbelievable at the same time that many people thought it could not be true.

“Our soldiers did the seemingly impossible. And it changed the course of history. Because a chain reaction began. It was the last day of the Russian fleet’s dominance in the Black Sea.

First, the successful use of Ukrainian missiles at such a distance convinced our partners that there was no point in delaying the transfer of Harpoon missiles.

Secondly, as soon as the Harpoon missiles were received, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa’s team successfully deployed them. As a result, this led to the Russian occupiers’ flight from Zmiinyi Island, which they called a “gesture of goodwill.”

Third, the liberation of Zmiinyi allowed us to open a “grain corridor”. The world got our products, Ukraine got resources for defense. If Moscow had not been destroyed, it would have been impossible to achieve this result,” the Defense Minister explained.

Thus, Reznikov added, the Russian fleet was forced to hide to the south and east of the occupied Crimea.

“The Kremlin’s dreams of landing on Odesa are a thing of the past. Now the Russians can only cowardly shell civilians from the air,” the minister concluded.
