The National Bank of Ukraine forecasts this year’s grain harvest to be 15% less than in 2022
According to the National Bank’s forecasts, this year’s grain harvest will amount to 46 million tons, which is about 15% less than in 2022. This was stated by Deputy Governor of the National Bank Sergiy Nikolaychuk during a press briefing.
“For this year, we assume that the grain harvest will be about 46 million tons. This is about 15% less than last year,” Mr. Nikolaychuk said.
He noted that the National Bank expects a significant widening of the trade deficit this year, due to both the harvest and lower capacity due to the destruction of energy infrastructure, as well as additional demand for imports.
As of January 12, 2023, Ukraine has already harvested 50.9 million tons of grains and pulses from 10.9 million hectares (94% of the total area under crops), with a yield of 4.7 t/ha.
