The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on Russian President Putin’s statement that Russia unblocked the “grain agreement” allegedly after Ukraine provided guarantees that the grain corridor would not be used for military purposes.
This was announced on Facebook by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that:
- Ukraine did not use and did not plan to use the grain corridor for military purposes.
- The Ukrainian side strictly adheres to the provisions of the grain agreement. “I would like to remind you that within the framework of this agreement, the parties undertook to guarantee a safe and reliable environment for the functioning of the grain corridor. “Ukraine has never endangered the grain route,” Nikolenko said.
- Our state did not take on any new obligations that would go beyond those already existing in the grain agreement.
- Moscow returned to the grain agreement thanks to the active diplomacy of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “In coordination with Ukraine, they found words that Putin understood. It was a position of strength, not a concession,” noted the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Russia’s return to fulfilling its obligations under the grain initiative vividly illustrates the effective formula: strong position + decisive action = result.
“We are grateful to the UN and Turkey for their leadership in restoring the functioning of the grain corridor, which plays an important role in ensuring global food security,” he concluded.
