The EU leaves no chance for its rivals in the Bulgarian market of rapeseed and rape oil

As expected, the 2018/19 season witnessed Bulgaria’s rapeseed market show downward trends in many respects: lower rapeseed crop, decreased rapeseed exports as well as decreased exports of rapeseed oil.

At the same time, domestic crush grew substantially on demand from biodiesel producers, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The outlook for the current season looks pessimistic now. Reduced planted acreage because of unfavorable weather conditions will lead to a decrease in rapeseed crop for a third season in a row (down 13% from MY 2018/19).

Even though high demand is expected from the EU, rapeseed exports will decline. At the same time rapeseed crush will be as high as last season.

The EU remains the key importer of rapeseed and its products.

Winter rape planting is 27.5% behind last year. As plants are exposed to moisture scarcity along with upcoming winter weather risks, it is impossible to forecast any crop increase. Therefore, the market will become still tighter in MY 2019/20 that will intensify competition between exporters and crushers in the domestic rapeseed market of Bulgaria.
