The area under sunflower in Turkey will decrease
Turkish farmers in the season-2024/25 will reduce the planted areas under sunflower – from 750 thsd ha in 2023/24 MY to 690 thsd ha. This forecast was made by the analysts of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Experts note that the decline will be caused by the decline in the profitability of the oilseed production in the country, most farmers will include other crops in their crop rotation in the hope of higher profits.
“The sunflower planting campaign in Turkey for 2024/25 MY will start in late March and will be completed by May,” the USDA said.
At the same time, the agency expects the harvest to increase from 1.55 mln tonnes in 2023/24 MY to 1.675 mln tonnes. The growth, according to experts, will be due to improved yields, which last year were seriously reduced due to drought.
