Terminals on the western border of Ukraine are capable of handling 1 million tons of grain per month

Currently, 1 million tons of grain per month can be transshipped at terminals located on the western border of Ukraine. However, this capacity needs to be increased to at least 5 million tons per month. Oleksandr Kamyshin, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, spoke about this on Ukrainian Radio, reports Elevatorist.com.

“Some of this increase can be done by increasing the capacity of existing terminals. Mobile transshipments can be installed on some of the terminals. Some parts need to be closed by more powerful stationary terminals. The most difficult thing is stationary terminals, because construction is at least a year. Mobile installations can be installed in a few weeks, “said Oleksandr Kamyshin.

He noted that limited capacity is not the only problem.

“There is another problem – not all ports in Europe are ready to accept such a volume of grain to unload it for export. Not all consumers in Europe are ready to take on the increased volume of grain – factories, flour mills and so on. There will be no problems with the railway. It will be difficult to get it bought in the right volume and further exported, “added the head of Ukrzaliznytsia.
