According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria, in the current year the country harvested about 6.59 mln tons of wheat with an average yield of 0.54 t/ha, which is 6% higher than the previous year.

According to the statement of the Head of the Ministry, Kirill Vatiev, this volume is enough to meet the country’s needs for the production of flour, bread and confectionery, which average 1.1 million tons per year, as well as the required volume for the feed industry and the realization of export potential.

This year’s sunseed harvest in Bulgaria is estimated at 1.62 mln tons, which is 21% lower than last year. The decline in production is due to both a reduction in the area under the oilseed (by 6% per year, to 860.04 thousand hectares) and a decrease in its average yield (by 16% to 0.189 t/ha).

This year’s corn harvest amounted to 2.25 mln tons (-9.9% yoy), with the planted area at 534.83 thou hectares. The average yield of the grain decreased by 11.6% yoy.

As of December 8 this year, the stocks of wheat in Bulgaria were estimated at 3.4 million tons, corn – 1.8 million tons, and sunflower seeds – 1.5 million tons.
