State Stevedore MMTP plans to build a container terminal
SE “Mariupol Commercial Sea Port” (MSCP) intends to implement a long-term project for the construction of a modern container terminal on the territory of the former coal complex.
According to the press service of the state stevedore, Igor Barsky, director of the state enterprise “MMTP”, told about ambitious investment projects in the port of Mariupol, as well as the reasons why the administration decided to develop the port in these directions at a meeting with People’s Deputy Sergei Magera on Wednesday, September 29.
The first project, which is already being implemented by the company, is the construction of a grain cargo transshipment complex in the Mariupol port. Now the first stage of the grain terminal is at the completion stage, the completion of construction and installation work is scheduled for December 4.
The second project, which the port workers identified as a medium-term plan, is the construction of a covered warehouse for metal products in the third cargo area. This project includes, among other things, the purchase of overhead cranes and the reconstruction of access railway lines.
The third (long-term) project is the construction of a modern container terminal on the territory of the former coal-cargo complex.
In the world, the volume of container traffic is growing every year, and the port workers have a desire to return the container flow and look for an investor. In this matter, the port is actively supported by the city authorities, who have undertaken the handling of overland logistics, ”the MMTP notes.
Magera thanked for the information about the plans of the port and promised to help in their implementation.
There is a prospect of my participation at the level of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as in communication with the Ministry of Infrastructure and with Metinvest, ”said the deputy.
Earlier, Barsky said in an interview with Ports of Ukraine that the state stevedore expects to come to an agreement with container lines regarding the resumption of sea transshipment of containers.
In April 2021, Moscow Sea Commercial Port carried out the transshipment of containers from rail to road transport.
SE “MMTP” operates berths No. 1-18 of the Mariupol seaport. In 2020, the State Stevedore increased its cargo turnover compared to the previous year by 7.8%, or by 449 thousand tons – up to 6.22 million tons.
According to the results in 2020 SE “MITI” received a profit of UAH 55 million against a loss of USD 35 million a year earlier.
