The soybean sowing campaign in Brazil was carried out on 83% of the plan by December 3, according to the monitoring data of the national agricultural agency Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab).

According to their estimates, the field work advanced by 8% over the week, but the current result is still inferior to last year’s, when 91% of the fields were sown by the reporting date.

“Sowing is nearing completion in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo and Paraná. In addition, recent rains have facilitated field work and crop development in some regions, particularly in Goiás and Minas Gerais,” the report said.

At the same time, according to Safras&Mercado, the sowing campaign in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul is still seriously behind. The work there is only 28% of the plan. Farmers are hampered by heavy rainfall to speed up the sowing campaign.

“The conditions for the campaign in the region were poor due to the retention of moisture in the soil,” said Emater agronomist Guilherme Zorzi.

He clarified that at the end of last week the weather improved slightly, allowing farmers to go out into the fields.

Also, the country is sowing corn of the first harvest – 60% of the plan area was planted by December 3 (+5% per week; 71% a year earlier).
