Soybean Planting Dates Extended in Brazil

соя

Farm organizations in various Brazilian states petitioned the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture to extend the soybean planting dates due to the hot and dry weather that delayed planting and caused some of the soybeans to be replanted. The Minister extended the planting window for about half as many days as the organizations had requested. Most of the extensions were granted for states in central Brazil and below is a list of the extensions granted for farmers in central and northern Brazil.

    • Mato Grosso extended 20 days until January 13th.
    • Mato Grosso do Sul extended 20 days until January 13th.
    • Goias extended 10 days until January 12th.
    • Tocantins extended 12 days until January 20th.
    • Para was divided into three regions. Region One was extended until January 14th. Region Two was extended until February 28th. Region Three was extended until March 14th.
    • Piaui was divided into three regions. Region One was extended until March 9th. Region Two was extended until February 8th. Region Three was extended until January 28th.
    • Acre extended 20 days until January 18th.

The soybean planting window in Brazil is already very wide and this year it will be even wider. The extended window could complicate the control of soybean rust because the rust spores multiply as the season progresses, so the later the soybeans are planted, the more the potential fungicide applications that will be needed to adequately control the disease.
