Soybean harvest loses strength but already exceeds 70% of the area in Brazil
The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean crop lost momentum again in the period between March 23 and 28. Slightly heavier rain over some states in the Midwest and North regions, in addition to Rio Grande do Sul, prevented farm machines from advancing better. The pace is now behind the five-year average for the period and last year as well.
According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, as of March 28, 73.4% had been reaped from a total sown area of 45.409 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 33.350 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 69.4%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 74.4%. The five-year average for the period is 76.2%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total sown area of 6.6 mln hectares, 8% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 528 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 4%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 9%. The five-year average for the period is 25.8%.
In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.9 mln hectares sown, 89% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 5.251 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 83%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 81%, while the five-year average for the period is 85.2%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 12.1 mln hectares, 99% were reaped, or approximately 11.979 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 99%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 99.2%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, of the total estimated area of 4.28 mln hectares sown, 97% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 4.152 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 94%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 95%, while the five-year average for the period is 97.6%.
In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.65 mln hectares, 85% were reaped, or approximately 3.953 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 80%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 92%. The five-year average for the period is 92.4%.
In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares sown, 85% were reaped, or approximately 1.19 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 77%. In the same period last year, 73% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 88.2%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total sown area of 2.2 mln hectares, 82% were reaped, equivalent to approximately 1.804 mln hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 76%. In the same period last year, 82% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 87.4%.
In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 2 mln hectares, 55% were reaped, or approximately 1.1 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 44%. In the same period last year, 65% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 47.2%.
Climate forecast maps now point to a period of moisture over the states of the Midwest, North and part of the Southeast and Northeast regions between March 28 and April 3.
In the period between April 4 and 10, greater moisture should reach the North region and part of the South and Midwest regions.
