According to the forecasts of the Danube Soybean Association, this year Ukraine will harvest about 4.410 million tons of soybeans, which is 18.2% more than last year.

This was reported by Mykola Bykov, agronomy consultant of the Danube Soybean Association, national expert on conservation agriculture at FAO, in his column for AgroTimes.

In addition, this year soybeans were planted on 1.8 million hectares, which is the highest figure for the last five years.

According to the expert, the positive indicators of the expected yield were ensured by the fact that the weather conditions this year were very favorable for soybeans. The drought appeared only in the second half of August, when the varieties of medium and early ripeness had already bloomed and formed beans. Therefore, the lack of precipitation is currently affecting late-ripening soybean varieties to a greater extent.

“As of now, soybean crops are in good condition in the regions where the largest percentage of the area under this crop is concentrated, i.e. in Central and Western Ukraine. We have recorded the development of some diseases, but this is a normal situation for the climatic conditions in these regions. There are some fields where the percentage of disease infection is higher, so yields may be reduced locally, but this will not affect the overall national figure,” said Mykola Bykov.
