Despite the fact that the soybean area in Germany in 2023 decreased compared to the previous year, the harvest is likely to significantly exceed last year’s result.

According to the Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (mbH), soybean cultivation in Germany started to play a significant role only in 2015. Since then, the area has grown steadily and significantly. However, in 2023, the area was reduced by 6,700 hectares to 44,800 hectares.

According to preliminary data from the German Federal Statistical Office, this area yielded 122,100 tons of soybeans, about 1,600 tons more than in the previous year. The decisive factor in this is the increase in yields. The average yield of 27.3 cwt/ha was 3.9 cwt/ha higher than last year. Thus, the minimum area was more than compensated for. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg remain the main growing regions.
