Sowing of soybeans is coming to an end in the US

By June 23, U.S. farmers had planted 95% of the planned area with soybeans. Sowing rates are slightly ahead of the five-year average. This is reported by the National Agricultural Statistics Service under the USDA (NASS).

The share of soybean crops in excellent and good condition is now 67% (70% a week earlier and 51% a year ago).

According to the USDA forecasts, the gross soybean harvest this year will increase to 121.1 mln tonnes, which is more than in 2023 (113.3 mln tonnes) and the average for the last five years (112.5 mln tonnes).

The condition of winter wheat crops improved last week. The share of wheat crops in excellent and good condition increased to 52% (49% a week earlier and 40% a year ago). The development of crops is slightly faster than usual.

As of June 23, 40% of the winter wheat area was harvested. As of the same date last year, 21% of the area had been threshed, compared to 25% on average over the past five years.

On the contrary, the condition of spring wheat crops has deteriorated. The share of wheat crops in excellent and good condition decreased to 71% (76% and 50%). The pace of plant development is in line with the five-year average.
