South America set to hit record soybean crop
Soybean acreage in South America will expand to a record 66.09 million hectares during the current planting campaign, according to datagro consulting firm Datagro. As a result, the gross harvest of soybeans in the 2022/23 season under normal weather conditions can reach a record 219.34 million tons.
In the 2021/2022 season, the gross soybean harvest was only 181.95 million tons, as Brazil, the main producer of this crop in South America, lost part of the crop due to drought. In the 2022/23 season, Brazil can harvest about 152 million tons, or 70% of the total South American soybean crop.
