The agro-industrial complex of some EU countries, despite the desire to see Ukraine as a member of the Commonwealth, is guided by the experience of the last 5-6 years – before the full-scale war, blocking of the ports of Greater Odesa, etc.

Elizaveta Malyshko, the grain market expert of UkrAgroConsult, told about this in the interview with The Ukrainian Farmer.

According to her, during this period, the lion’s share of agricultural exports from Ukraine was shipped through deep-water ports, and Europeans did not consider it necessary to adjust their logistics infrastructure to Ukrainian flows.

The expert noted that the infrastructure in many Eastern European ports was set up for minimum export consignments. Moreover, their railways are not adapted to the powerful grain exports that Ukraine demonstrates, when in the best years up to 50 million tons of our agricultural products were exported abroad.

“They didn’t need all this, because the logistics were built to meet domestic needs. So now both Ukraine and Europe have to adapt to the new conditions. In particular, Ukrainian commercial companies are joining projects on the borders with the EU, including building terminals in the territories of the Commonwealth,” summarized Elizaveta Malyshko.
