Slowdown in Ukrainian wheat exports as domestic stocks shrink
924 KMT of wheat was exported in January, or 38% less than in December and 9% less than in January 2019, reports UkrAgroConsult.
About 16 MMT had been exported this season that is still up 39% year-on-year owing to a good start in July-October.
Due to large shipments in January, Egypt outstripped the biggest buyer – Indonesia – and became the top importer of Ukrainian wheat itself. In January, Egypt absorbed 44% of the total volume of Ukrainian wheat exports.
South Korea stopped purchases back in November 2019, therefore it has dropped off the top ten list of importers of Ukrainian wheat. Exports to all major destinations are up year-on-year, except for the following ones: Morocco: -48%, the EU: -36%, the Philippines: -35% and Thailand: -14%.
