Slovak carriers blocked truck traffic on the border with Ukraine
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has provided details of the blocking of truck traffic in Slovakia.
According to the SBGS press service, the blockade began today, December 1, at 16:05, on the territory of Slovakia through the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint, which is adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint Uzhhorod. The action, the duration of which is not yet known, is being organized by representatives of the Slovak Union of Carriers.
“It is known that the transportation of humanitarian aid, other important cargo, live animals, fuel and refrigerated cargo will not be blocked. The rest of the cargo leaving Slovakia will be allowed in limited quantities, four trucks per hour,” the border guards said.
In addition, traffic entering Slovakia will not be blocked. The movement of cars and buses will not be restricted.
As a reminder, Slovak carriers state that their goal is to save transportation and preserve thousands of jobs in transportation and logistics. On November 16, the Union of Carriers blocked the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint for an hour. Later, protesters began to let vehicles through, temporarily unblocking traffic for trucks.
In addition, the Slovak government, headed by Prime Minister Robert Fico, decided to extend the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine – the ban will also apply to imports of honey, sugar, malt, and soybeans. At the same time, the country is tightening transit rules.
