SEA delegation visits Thailand to explore collaboration in palm oil industry
A delegation from the Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India is set to visit Thailand to seek potential partnerships in the palm oil industry. The visit holds great promise for the growth and collaboration of the Indian edible oil industry, according to BV Mehta, Executive Director of SEA.
During their visit, the SEA delegation will delve into Thailand’s thriving palm oil complex, aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s intricate dynamics. Their main objective is to explore the seamless processes and vast export opportunities that Thailand offers.
One of the primary aims of the visit is to establish direct relationships with Thai producers and exporters in the palm oil sector. Thailand’s oil palm plantations currently yield around 3.2-3.5 million tonnes annually, with 1.2 million tonnes serving domestic needs and 1.2-1.5 million tonnes powering Thailand’s innovative 7% bio-diesel blend. Approximately 1 million tonnes of palm oil is exported, making up a significant 15% of India’s total palm oil imports.
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce in Thailand has invited the SEA to lead a delegation of major importers and refiners on a comprehensive study tour to Surat Thani, the country’s primary oil palm cultivation region.
Ajay Jhunjhunwala, President of SEA, will be leading the 19-member delegation to Thailand, with Atul Chaturvedi, Chairman of the Asian Palm Oil Alliance, serving as the deputy leader. The delegation is scheduled to depart for Thailand on August 23.
Furthermore, Thai palm oil leaders will be invited to join in celebrating SEA’s 60th year anniversary and Globoil India-2023.
This visit highlights the increasing importance of international collaborations within the palm oil industry and signifies the potential for mutual growth and development between India and Thailand.
