Safrinha Corn Harvest 89% in Parana, 2023/24 Corn 42% Planted

жнива

Farmers in the state of Parana in southern Brazil are harvesting their 2022/23 safrinha corn and planting their 2023/24 first corn crop at the same time. Wet weather over the past month has resulted in slow harvesting of the safrinha corn and high grain moisture.

The Department of Rural Economics (Deral) reported that farmers in the state had harvested 89% of their 2022/23 safrinha corn as of earlier this week. This represents an advance of 10% for the week. The corn remaining to be harvested is in the northern part of the state. Normally by this time of the year, the safrinha corn harvest is complete.

Farmers in the state had planted 42% of their 2023/24 corn as of earlier this week. This represents an advance of 16% for the week. The 2023/24 corn is 50% germinating and 50% in vegetative development. The most advanced corn planting is in the southern and southwestern part of the state.

Deral is estimating that the 2023/24 first corn crop acreage in Parana will be the smallest in history as farmers opt for more soybeans as their first crop while planting more of their corn as a second crop following soybeans.
