Russia. Winter crop condition

Weather conditions. In January, abnormally warm weather persisted in the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts and Western Siberia, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Moisture supply. Precipitation occurred in the form of snow, sleet and rain. In the Northwestern, Central, Volga federal districts, the height of snow cover ranged from 1-7 cm in the west and southwest to 40-70 cm and higher in the northeast and east. The soil was frozen to a depth of 10-20 cm. Towards January 10, the fields in most parts of the Southern district and in northern parts of the North Caucasian federal district got covered with  5-10 cm of snow. Snow cover in most areas melted on January 11-20. Winter grains in Western Siberia stayed under snow cover ranging from 15 cm to 25 cm. In the southwest of Western Siberia, the lowest soil temperature at the depth of tillering node of winter crops (3 cm) was registered at -5…-3°С.

Crop condition. Winter grains in the Northwestern, Central, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts and Western Siberia were exposed to fair weather conditions for their survival.
