Russia. March witnessed a slump in wheat exports
1.15 MMT of Russian wheat was exported in March (-74% from February and -66% from March 2019/20) – the lowest for this month since MY 2014/15, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Almost 34.4 MMT had been exported since the season’s beginning (+22% y-o-y) that is a record high for this time period.
The highest volumes were shipped to traditional destinations such as Egypt and Turkey (280 KMT and 208 KMT, respectively).
Most importers increased wheat purchases from Russia compared to the same time last year: Egypt (+52%), Turkey (+15%), Azerbaijan (+31%), the EU (+87%).
The EU has stepped up purchases in recent months, expanding its share in Russian wheat exports to 4%. Among major buyers, only Bangladesh reduced imports from last season (down 16%).
