In August this year, Russia shipped 7.7 million tons of grain for export, a record high for this month over the past seven years.

This is evidenced by the data of the Russian Grain Union, Interfax reports.

In particular, the export of Russian wheat amounted to 6.5 mln tons, which is 36.6% more than in August 2022. Barley exports increased by 7% to 997 thsd tonnes, and corn exports increased almost 1.9 times to 212 thsd tonnes.

In total, since the beginning of the current marketing year (July 1), Russia has exported 13.3 mln tonnes of major grains, which is 1.6 times more than in the first two months of the previous season. In particular, Russia exported 11 million tons of wheat (1.5 times more), which is also the highest figure for the last 7 years.

Egypt was the largest buyer of Russian wheat in August, with 910 thsd tonnes shipped. Algeria is in second place, with exports to this country increasing sevenfold to 610 thsd tonnes. Turkey took the third place with 481 thsd tonnes.

The top five buyers of Russian wheat in August also included Kenya (supplies increased 12-fold to 444 thsd tonnes) and Bangladesh (319 thsd tonnes shipped). In August 2022, Russia did not export wheat to this country at all.

As reported, in July, Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative and stated that it would consider any civilian vessel leaving Ukrainian ports as a military target.

After that, Russia launched massive attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, launching “shahed” strikes on grain storage and transshipment facilities.
