Russia: Grain Export and Import in January-June 2021

According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-June Russia exported 12.2 mn tons of wheat and meslin, down 1.8% year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export grew by 16.7% up to over $3.1 bn.

Wheat import into Russia during January-June 2021 increased by 42% up to 85.6 thousand tons. Corn import, on the contrary, declined by 26.1% down to 30.3 thousand tons. Barley import made 6.2 thousand tons, down 44.1% year-on-year.

In terms of value, wheat import was up 71.4% to $32.9 mn. Corn import declined by 11.1% down to $98.6 mn, and barley import by 25% down to $1.8 mn.

In June 2021 alone, wheat and meslin export made more than 2.2 mn tons, up 10.4-fold year-on-year and up 4.8-fold month-on-month. In terms of value, it surged 12.5-fold year-on-year and 4.1-fold month-on-month to make $570.4 mn.

Wheat import in June made 13.6 thousand tons, up 38.8% year-on-year and up 3.5% month-on-month. Value-wise, wheat import increased by 41.2% year-on-year and declined by 9.4% month-on-month to $4.8 mn.

Corn import grew by 8% year-on-year and surged 3-fold month-on-month making 2.7 thousand tons. In terms of value, it was up 25% year-on-year, but down 61.5% month-on-month to make $0.5 mn.

Barley import made 400 tons, down 33.3% year-on-year and down 63.6% month-on-month, worth $100 thousand, same as in June last year and down 50% month-on-month.
