Russia. Crop condition and harvesting progress

Weather conditions. Abnormally warm (24-29°C), prevailingly dry weather persisted in the Northwestern, Central, and most of Volga federal districts in the first half of September. It gave way to cold and rain later that month. Freezes (5-2°C below zero) were registered on September 21-30. In the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts, warm weather (25-27°C, 29-30°C) lasted until September 20, then air temperatures fell (15-20°C). Freezes (4-2°C below zero) occurred locally at the end of September.

In September, farming areas in the Ural federal district were exposed to variable air temperatures, but weather conditions were favorable for harvest and fall planting. The Siberian federal district was dominated by somewhat warmer-than-usual weather last month.

Moisture supply. Most parts of European Russia received 25-40 mm of precipitation in September. Heavy downpours were seen in a number of areas (50-100 mm and higher) that complicated fieldwork. Precipitation in the south was minor, even a soil moisture deficit occurred in part of the fields. Precipitation rates in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts were low (15-20 mm a month), but some areas received 60-80 mm or even more. Moisture supply for winter crops is mainly fair, though being insufficient and poor in some fields. The Siberian district received little precipitation (30-65% of monthly normal rate), therefore soil moisture shortages were locally observed.

Crop condition is good and fair, reports UkrAgroConsult.
