Romania’s largest sugar producer closes a sugar refining line at one of its plants
The Austrian company Agrana, the largest sugar producer in Romania, has announced an indefinite shutdown of the sugar refining line at its Buzau plant due to supply chain disruptions, which has had significant economic consequences.
This was reported by romania-insider.
Despite the shutdown, other operations at the Buzau and Romana plants, including packaging, storage and logistics, continue as usual.
According to the official data of the Ministry of Finance, in 2023, Agrana Romania recorded a loss of 9.3 million lei (about 2 million euros), despite a record turnover of 1.23 billion lei (247 million euros), which is 46% more than in 2022.
The total number of employees in Romania amounted to 266 people.
