Romanian Prime Minister Ciolacu: A ban on grain imports would be a signal that we do not want to help Ukraine, which is not true

Romania did not impose a unilateral ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products because it believes that Ukraine needs to be helped until the war is over. This was announced by Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

He noted that Ukraine needs to be helped until it wins the war against Russia. Thus, Romania’s support includes assistance with grain transit. He emphasized that his country did not react in the same way as Poland.

According to Ciolacu, that is why, after consultations with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, he allowed the option of licensing exports and imports of Ukrainian agricultural products.

“Through dialogue, we found this system of licensing exports from Ukraine so that farmers would be protected, but we did not come up with a ban because it would signal that we do not want to help Ukraine, which is not true,” he said.

“This is not a war between Russia and Ukraine, it’s not between Putin and Zelensky, it’s a war between a dictator and the democratic world. This is a bet,” the prime minister added.
