Romania plans to ban imports of agricultural products other than grain. In any case, Ukrainian grain will not be supplied to Romania for the next 30 days, Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu said, Digi24 reports.

According to him, he spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart and Ukraine agreed that Ukrainian grain would not be supplied to Romania for the next 30 days.

“I will also discuss restrictions on imports to Romania of those products where the level of self-sufficiency reaches 100% to help Romanian farmers and processors. For example, Romania is 100% self-sufficient in chicken. We have the same situation with honey, flour, corn flour,” Florin Barbu said.

As reported, on September 15, the European Commission refused to extend the temporary ban on imports of Ukrainian wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed to five EU countries neighboring Ukraine.

Following this, Poland imposed its own ban. Hungary and Slovakia did the same.

Polish media reported that these three countries also rejected Kyiv’s plan to control agricultural imports.

In May 2023, the European Commission banned imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflower from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania at the insistence of these countries. On June 5, the ban was extended until September 15, 2023.
