On Friday, September 8, the Romanian government will approve a plan to modernize the infrastructure at the port of Constanta, which could facilitate the transit of Ukrainian grain.

At the port of Constanta, the Romanian Ministry of Transport intends to modernize the existing infrastructure, build new roads, access ramps and roundabouts, and launch a digital traffic management system at the expense of the European Union.

The works at the port, which will cost 721.3 million lei ($155.67 million), are expected to last for 36 months.

In addition, the Moldovan government has modernized dozens of railway lines connecting the port of Constanta with Ukraine. And on the Danube, work is underway to allow more barges to pass through, including by hiring more pilots and making navigation possible at night.

Earlier, Romanian officials stated that they intend to double the monthly transit of Ukrainian grain to Constanta to 4 million tons in the coming months.
