The Ministry of Agriculture of Poland hosted a meeting of the Interagency Group on Transportation of Agricultural and Food Products from Ukraine. The main topic of the meeting was to consider the possibilities of improving the ways of exporting grain from Ukraine.

According to Polish officials, the capacity of Polish ports in 2023 will be 12.6 million tons of grain. To utilize this potential, all possibilities of increasing transportation and transshipment capacities are being analyzed. It is noted that in early January, representatives of the National Council of Agrarian Chambers appealed to the leadership of the Polish government and the Ministry of Agriculture to take measures to “improve the situation related to excessive grain imports from Ukraine to Poland.”

It was proposed to introduce a ban on imports of grain and rapeseed and to introduce a deposit for importers from Ukraine. Polish Vice Minister of Agriculture Janusz Kowalski responded to this: “Regarding the postulate on suspension of grain and rapeseed imports from Ukraine, I would like to inform you that such a ban is impossible due to the existing international agreements with the European Union and Ukraine, as well as between Ukraine and the EU, and the rules of the World Trade Organization.

In the current situation, one of the most important areas of activity is to intensify exports of agricultural products outside of Poland, both to EU countries characterized by a deficit and to third countries dependent on imports.” No information is provided on the volume of grain handled by Polish ports in 2022.
