Polish farmers start blockade of the Ukrainian border
Polish farmers have started a blockade of the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko.
“The actions of Polish farmers to block the movement of vehicles began in front of the Medyka checkpoint, which is opposite the Ukrainian Shehyni checkpoint. At about 10:10 Ukrainian border guards were informed by their Polish colleagues,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, about 100 people and about 50 vehicles are blocking the traffic. As a result of these actions, trucks, cars and buses are not moving to and from Poland.
“We hope that the situation will change as soon as possible and certain categories of transport will be allowed to pass,” emphasized Demchenko.
On other directions, where traffic was also planned to be blocked on February 9, namely the directions of the Yagodyn and Rava-Ruska checkpoints, traffic is moving, and there has been no information from the Polish side on the beginning of the blocking.
As reported, as part of the protests, Polish farmers plan to block traffic at five checkpoints on the border with Ukraine: three on February 9, and two more on February 12.
