Polish farmers start a protest on the border with Lithuania
Polish farmers protest near the passenger service area on the S61 national road near the border with Lithuania. The announced blocking of the route did not take place. Representatives of the Lithuanian government also appeared at the site. This was reported by RFM24.
There are about 30-40 farmers at the checkpoint, no tractors. Employees of the State Tax Administration are present at the site, checking trucks from Lithuania, as they do every day.
The newspaper’s correspondent said that the traffic of trucks at this checkpoint is half the usual amount today. On the Lithuanian side, the situation is being monitored by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, the Lithuanian Consul, the Chief Commandant of the Lithuanian Police and the Chief Commandant of the Border Guard.
The purpose of this action is for Polish farmers to check all vehicles that are likely to transport Ukrainian grain or other agricultural products, as they believe that agricultural products from Ukraine enter the Polish domestic market through Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture has denied allegations that Ukrainian grain in transit is being exported to Poland under the guise of Lithuanian grain.
