In Poland, residents of the Orly commune and farmers from the organization “Podkarpackie Deceived Village” have started a blockade of national road 77 in the village of Dunkovichi. They are protesting against the construction of a new road in the direction of Zhuravitsa to the terminal where products from Ukraine are transshipped.

The blockade is expected to last until June 30.

The protesters claim that the construction has not been agreed with landowners and believe that this investment will increase traffic on the national road and deprive local farmers of their land.

“We demand that the road construction work be stopped, as this area is currently very valuable from an agricultural point of view… It will complicate the work of farmers, take away valuable fields from them, and also make it difficult for residents to move around,” said one of the protesters.

The strikers are letting five vehicles pass through per hour, with the exception of shuttle buses, minibuses and food trucks. They are demanding negotiations with the investor and a change in the road’s route.

The road being built is to provide a better connection to the national road DK 77, which is currently the only access road to the Zhuravychi terminal. The terminal handles cargo transported by rail to and from Ukraine, including agricultural products.
