Polish carriers announce resumption of blockade at Shehyni-Medica checkpoint
Polish carriers will again block the Medyka-Szegyni checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. This was stated by the owner of the logistics company Rafał Mekler Transport, Rafał Mekler.
“Farmers left Medyka, carriers are returning to Medyka,” he wrote on Facebook on January 11.
The document states that the action will begin at 9:00 a.m. on January 15 and will last around the clock until March 15. The blockers’ demands remained unchanged.
According to unofficial information, the voivode of the Medyki Commune has banned the gathering of carriers at the border. The protesters have the right to appeal the decision of the local authorities in the relevant district court. The court should consider the case within 24 hours.
The Polish carriers’ dissatisfaction is related to competition after the liberalization of international transportation between Ukraine and the European Union. They stated that the strike could last for several months and affect all checkpoints. If their demands were met, they promised to stop the strike. However, the Ministry of Community Development said that most of the demands were unrealistic, including a return to the system of issuing permits for Ukrainian carriers to work in the EU.
On December 18, Polish carriers resumed their protests at the largest checkpoint, Yahodyn-Dorohusk, on the Ukrainian-Polish border. They were joined by farmers. The action is expected to last for several months. Meanwhile, since November 6, Polish entrepreneurs have been protesting in front of the Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska and Krakivets-Korczowa border crossings.
On December 23, in the morning, Polish farmers ended the blockade of the Shehyni-Medica border crossing.
