Poland will extend embargo on Ukrainian products if Kyiv continues to escalate grain conflict – Morawiecki
For Poland, the interest of its farmers will be the most important. The embargo will remain in place until the necessary mechanisms are developed. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
According to him, Poland is ready to continue to help Ukraine, but not at the cost of “destabilizing the Polish market.”
Morawiecki added that the embargo will remain in place until “mechanisms of cooperation” are developed.”I warn the Ukrainian authorities: if they escalate the conflict, we will add even more products to the ban on exports to Poland,” the Polish prime minister said.
Morawiecki also added that Poland believes in Ukraine’s victory and is helping, but the interest of the Polish farmer, the Polish village, and the Poles will be the most important thing for the government.
“This will happen regardless of what anyone in the world says, because we do not bow to those from the East or the West, we act only in the interests of Poles,” the Polish Prime Minister summarized. On September 15, the European Commission announced that it would lift restrictive measures on the export of Ukrainian grain and other food products to the EU. Later, the authorities of Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia announced their own bans.Poland added cereals and flour to the list of banned products, in addition to wheat, rapeseed, sunflower, and corn. Hungary expanded the ban to 24 commodities.
Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization, accusing these countries of discriminatory treatment of Ukrainian agricultural products.
