Poland offers Ukraine mutual licensing of agricultural exports
Poland offers Ukraine to develop a mechanism for mutual licensing of agricultural exports. This was announced by Minister of Agriculture of Poland Czeslaw Sekerski at the ninth meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Lviv on March 11.
“Minister Czeslaw Sekerski summarized the state of cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the agri-food sector. He emphasized that in these areas Poland and Ukraine will always cooperate and compete with each other,” the Polish Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
The Polish Minister, commenting on Poland’s imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, noted that the change in logistics routes and the liberalization of trade between the European Union and Ukraine have led to a sharp increase in imports of certain agri-food products to Poland.
In response to serious disruptions in agricultural markets and growing social unrest, Poland had to impose certain restrictions on imports of certain goods from Ukraine.
“We want to develop a method of protection against the negative consequences of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine that would be acceptable to all participants,” Sekerski emphasized and expressed hope for the development of a mechanism for mutual licensing of agricultural exports.
According to him, Poland is ready to share its knowledge and experience in adapting the Ukrainian agricultural sector to the requirements of the European Union.
Sekerski also expressed hope for cooperation between Poland and Ukraine on joint exports of food products to third country markets.
Earlier it was reported that the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi met with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland Czeslaw Sekerski and proposed to hold joint interministerial talks at the end of March with the involvement of representatives of specialized agricultural associations of Poland and Ukraine.
