Poland has a new Minister of Agricultural Policy. He said that “the EU has opened up too much to Ukraine”

The new Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, has presented a new government. The Ministry of Agriculture will be headed by Czeslaw Sekerski. One of his deputies is Michal Kolodziejczak from Agrounia, who organized protests in Poland against grain imports from Ukraine.

Earlier, Sekerski said that Ukraine should be supported, but in a way that does not harm Polish and European agriculture.

“The EU has opened up too much to Ukraine, believing that opening the European market to Ukraine will improve its economic situation and promote bilateral trade. I was a speaker on this issue and prepared a relevant conclusion at the European Parliament forum, which was negative about the flow of goods from Ukraine. I mentioned, among other things, how dangerous such an approach to sensitive agricultural sectors is in the case of simplified, preferential quotas for agri-food products. In my opinion, we can support the development of Ukraine, but in a different way, and we should not use such support that harms Polish and European agriculture,” he commented in an interview with Gazeta Pomorska.

Sekerski also noted that lower labor costs in Ukraine, good soil quality, improved agricultural infrastructure and intensified production of raw materials will lead to an increase in the supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to Europe.
