Poland demands that the EU ban imports of Russian agricultural products
Poland demands a ban on imports of Russian agricultural products to Europe. This was stated by Poland’s permanent representative to the EU, Andrzej Sados, PAP reports.
“We believe that sanctions on Russian agricultural products should be imposed immediately, at least because of the problems with the import of Ukrainian products to the EU.
Europe is not facing a disruption of the agricultural supply chain. On the contrary. We have a problem with surpluses. We are now solving the problem of a significant increase in imports of agricultural products from Ukraine,” Sados said.
The Polish side adds that the European Commission has never proposed that EU countries impose sanctions on food products from Russia, as it explained this as a threat to global food security.
It is added that the EU has already adopted 10 packages of sanctions against Russia. Each package requires the unanimity of 27 member states.
To recap:
The United States has granted JPMorgan Bank permission to process payments for agricultural exports through Rosselkhozbank, but this did not replace the bank’s reconnection to the SWIFT system.
The European Union intends to ban the transit of many goods through Russia to strengthen compliance with the sanctions already in place.
