Poland and Ukraine negotiate full border closure. Tusk: It will be a temporary and painful solution

Poland and Ukraine are negotiating a temporary border closure and exchange of goods. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, RFM24 reports.

“We are also negotiating with the Ukrainian side on the temporary closure of the border and the exchange of goods. I will also talk about this tomorrow with Polish farmers,” Tusk said, adding that it would be “a temporary solution and painful for both sides.”

He plans to meet with the protesting farmers on Thursday, February 29.

Asked about specific proposals for solutions he would like to present to the farmers, Tusk said he “will not be the prime minister with whom Poland will leave the EU or become a country blocking the border with Ukraine.”

“We are ready to have a serious conversation about – the limits that Brussels and Kyiv propose are unacceptable to us. An attempt was made to slightly limit the supply of agricultural products from Ukraine so that the same amount of goods could enter duty-free as in 2022 and 2023. Poland will propose in Brussels that the base period should not be 2022-2023, but the time before the war,” the head of the Polish government said.

As previously reported, Polish carriers plan to resume their protest on the Polish-Ukrainian border on March 1.
