Planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop progresses at a good pace
The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop had a good week in most of the growing states. In the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, and Mato Grosso do Sul, the planting progressed a little slower due to excess moisture registered on some days.
According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until October 21, Brazilian growers sowed 32.4% of the total area expected for the country in the 2022/23 crop. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 13.890 mln hectares sown, out of a total of 42.887 mln hectares estimated for planting. In the previous week, the percentage was 19.1%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reached 35.8%, while the five-year average for the period is 25.8%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 6.4 mln hectares, 1% was sown, or approximately 64 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 0.2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 1%, while the five-year average for the period is 1.5%.
In Paraná, 36% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 2.070 mln hectares planted, out of a total of 5.750 mln hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the percentage was 29%. In the same period last year, the percentage reached 41%, while the five-year average is 45% for the period.
In Mato Grosso, of an expected total area of 11.85 mln hectares, 67% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 7.940 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 41%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 69%. The five-year average for the period is 47%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, the planting is 29% complete of a total area estimated at 3.85 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 1.117 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 15%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 45%. The five-year average for the period is 31.4%.
In Goiás, out of an expected total area of 4.2 mln hectares, 33% were sown, equivalent to 1.386 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 17%. In the same period last year, the percentage was also 37%, while the five-year average for the period is 20.4%.
In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.25 mln hectares, 35% were sown, or approximately 438 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 15%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 36%, while the five-year average for the period is 18%.
In Minas Gerais, out of an expected total area of 2.05 mln hectares, 18% were sown, or approximately 369 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 8%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 35%, while the five-year average for the period is 17%.
In Bahia, from an area estimated at 1.85 mln hectares, 3% were sown, or the equivalent of 56 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 1%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 8%, while the five-year average for the period is 2.1%.
Weather forecasts point to a period of moisture in practically all growing states in the period between October 22 and 28, with higher accumulations being expected for the west of the states of Santa Catarina and Paraná, besides most of Mato Grosso and the states of the North region.
Between October 29 and November 4, moisture must increase throughout the country, except for the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which must receive little or no moisture.
