Pakistan: Deadline for wheat committee probe extended

пшеница

The wheat inquiry committee head has said that the deadline for the finalisation of the report has been extended due to an increase in the committee’s ToRs.

Talking informally to the media after a special cabinet meeting here at the Parliament House, Cabinet Division Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal said that he could not give a timeframe for the submission of the report. However, he asked why rumours were being spread. “This is not a good attitude,” he added.

Previously, the prime minister had given four days to the committee to fix responsibily for the import of wheat beyond demand and permission to open LCs after the month of February. During March, the private sector was allowed to import 6.91 million metric tons of wheat worth Rs57.192 billion. During the tenure of the last interim government, the private sector was allowed to import over 2.7 million metric tons of wheat worth Rs225.78 billion till February.
