October 2023 was the warmest on record in the world. The average surface temperature was 15.3 degrees Celsius, which is 0.85 degrees above the average for October 1991-2020.

This was reported by the World Meteorological Organization.

Last month was 1.7 degrees warmer overall compared to the average October during the pre-industrial period of 1850-1900, defined as the base period.

“October 2023 saw exceptional temperature anomalies after four months of global temperature records being broken. The sense of urgency for the ambitious climate action that is part of (this year’s climate conference – ed.) COP28 has never been more urgent,” said Samantha Burgess, Deputy Director of the Center.

As a reminder, according to the observations of the weather station of the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, on October 2, meteorological autumn arrived in Kyiv, which began more than two weeks later than the climate norm.
