Next week, the European Commission is expected to present a proposal to limit the amount of grain imports from Russia and Belarus. This is reported by RMF FM.

Citing an unnamed European diplomat, the publication reports that the European Commission’s proposal will include quotas for food products from Russia and Belarus.

At the same time, the EU wants to avoid a full embargo, as there are fears of global price fluctuations and that it will negatively affect poor countries.

At the same time, the transit of products from Russia and Belarus will be allowed.

“So far, there have been no quantitative restrictions on grain imports from Russia, while such restrictions exist for Ukrainian imports. This decision was becoming increasingly difficult to support from a moral and political point of view,” RMF FM emphasizes.

In 2023, according to Eurostat, the EU imported more than 1.5 mln tons of grain. At the same time, in 2022, 970 thousand tons of grain were imported.
