New defense package will help Ukraine protect ports, – White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre
The new U.S. military aid package will include equipment to help strengthen the security of Ukrainian seaports amid recent Russian attacks. White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre said this at a briefing in Washington.
“These capabilities (announced in the new package – Ed.) will become increasingly important, especially now that Russia has withdrawn from the grain deal and resumed attacks on port cities, as we have seen over the past two days,” the White House spokeswoman said.
She reminded that among the many types of weapons and equipment in the new package are port and harbor security equipment that should strengthen the security of Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
Jean-Pierre also emphasized that the United States will continue to support Ukraine’s efforts to ensure access to international markets for its grain. In this regard, she recalled USAID Administrator Samantha Power’s statement about the US intentions to allocate hundreds of millions of dollars to support Ukrainian agricultural enterprises, provide loans, business grants, etc.
In addition, the White House representative noted the contribution of other countries in the region, including Romania, to improving land access for Ukrainian grain to international markets.
“So, we will continue to help Ukraine not only in the short term, but also in the long term,” the White House spokesperson assured.
