Negotiations on continuation of “grain initiative” to be held in the coming days, – UN coordinator
UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said that efforts to continue the “grain initiative” will continue in the coming days, The Guardian reports.
Griffiths said this at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine.
“The continuation of the Black Sea Initiative is crucial, as is the parties’ recommitment to its smooth and effective functioning. We will continue to urge everyone to fulfill their responsibilities, as the world is watching us very closely,” the UN coordinator emphasized.
As a reminder, a new round of negotiations on the grain corridor began in Istanbul on May 10. Prior to that, Ukrainian vessels had not been inspected for two days under the grain initiative. Ukraine blamed Russia for the delays in vital food exports.
Recently, the Turkish Defense Minister said that after two days of talks in Istanbul, the parties are approaching an agreement to extend the grain deal.
