Moroccan authorities subsidize imports of 2.5 mln tons of wheat

The National Inter-Professional Office for Cereals and Legumes (ONICL) announced the subsidization of the import of 2.5 mln tonnes of milling wheat in the period from July 1 to September 30.
The current year was again a poor harvest for Morocco. According to the forecasts of the USDA, the Kingdom will harvest 3.8 mln tonnes of wheat, which is more than in 2022/2023 season (2.7 mln tonnes), but less than the five-year average (4.9 mln tonnes). Wheat imports in 2023/2024 season may increase to 7.5 mln tonnes, which is 1.9 mln tonnes more than the five-year average.
