Moldovan agrarians declare critical situation due to lack of precipitation
Moldovan farmers are worried about the lack of precipitation. According to their forecasts, harvests will be smaller and of lower quality. At the moment, the most affected crops are cereals, but there is also a risk of reduced fruit yields due to poor pollination of apple, cherry and plum trees.
This topic was discussed at an online meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture with the heads of district directorates. Some farmers say the situation is critical and are asking for drought declaration certificates.
Farmers in the districts say that if there is no rain in the coming weeks, much of their crops could be at risk: “The plants are dry from the bottom and almost to the ear. If there is no rain, we will have big problems.”
Across the country, based on visits and meetings with growers, about 30-35% of crops are in good condition. The rest – about 40-45% are in satisfactory condition, and there are also unsatisfactory ones.
As for the fruit sector, there are problems with pollination due to low temperatures.
