Moldova will not ban grain imports from Ukraine

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Moldova does not plan to stop importing grain from Ukraine, as was done in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, although Moldovan farmers demand to limit imports and want compensation due to falling prices in the domestic market. This was reported by Radio Europa Liberă (Radio Liberty).

The Association of Farmers in Moldova says that the decline in grain prices has pushed thousands of small and medium-sized agricultural producers to the brink of bankruptcy. The Association emphasized that the temporary ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine by three EU member states could lead to an increase in imports in other countries, and asked for compensation or a ban on imports.

The EU is allocating €100 million in compensation to farmers in 5 neighboring countries, but Moldova cannot benefit from such payments because it is not part of the European Union.

The Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture has sent requests to major European institutions and high-level discussions are underway to help Moldovan farmers.
