Moldova extends import licensing for corn, wheat and sunseed

The Emergency Situations Commission of the Republic of Moldova has extended the import licensing regime for certain grain products and oilseeds for 3 months. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova.

“Thus, the import of wheat, corn and sunflower seeds (including crushed seeds) will be allowed only on the basis of a license in the next 3 months. Applications for import licenses are considered by a commission composed of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the National Agency for Food Safety, as well as representatives of professional organizations,” the statement said.

It is noted that this measure was taken to stabilize grain prices and protect local producers, who are given the opportunity to sell their harvest.

“Only legal entities and individuals engaged in economic activities in the production of oil and vegetable fats, milled products, preparations for feeding farm animals and breeding animals will be eligible to obtain import licenses. The application for an import license must be accompanied by documents confirming the need to replenish stocks,” the Ministry added.
