Minister of Agrarian Policy Solsky discussed the “grain issue” with his Polish counterpart, talks will continue in the coming days
Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky had a telephone conversation with his Polish counterpart Robert Telus.
This is stated on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian ministry.
The ministers discussed the situation, as well as Ukraine’s proposal to resolve it, and agreed to find a solution that takes into account the interests of both countries.
“The parties reaffirmed the close and constructive relations that they have repeatedly demonstrated and agreed, with this in mind, to develop a variant of cooperation on export issues in the near future,” the statement said.
The next talks will take place in the coming days to discuss the issues prepared by the parties. Also, the Polish side will study the Ukrainian export plan and prepare its proposals for it.
As a reminder, the Ministers of Agriculture of Slovakia and Ukraine agreed to create a grain trade licensing system that will allow lifting the ban on imports of four Ukrainian products to Slovakia once it is in place.
The European Commission has decided to allow the sale of Ukrainian grain throughout the bloc, lifting the grain import restrictions that five eastern EU countries initially sought to use to protect their farmers from competition.
Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia reacted to the Commission’s decision by imposing unilateral bans on Ukrainian grain imports, in clear violation of EU internal market rules. Kyiv responded by filing lawsuits against the three countries with the World Trade Organization.
Romania will work with Ukraine on a plan to control grain exports that will help protect Romanian farmers.
